The HCG Diet Scam

Leave it to the greed driven American Medical industry slime to sell more worthless and dangerous snake oil. There are a lot of diet scams out there. One of the biggest are Doctor Atkins' Weight Loss Revolution and Doctor Agatston's  South Beach but the new scam is HCG. This is another buy your way thin scam that preys on the desperation and ignorance of fat women. Here is what the Mayo Clinic has to say about this scam:

Does the HCG diet work — and is it safe?

from Jennifer K. Nelson, R.D., L.D.
No on both counts. In fact, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has advised consumers to steer clear of over-the-counter weight-loss products that contain HCG.
HCG is human chorionic gonadotropin, a hormone produced during pregnancy. As a prescription medication, HCG is used mainly to treat fertility issues. HCG is not approved for over-the-counter use, nor has it been proved to work for weight loss. Companies that sell over-the-counter HCG weight-loss products are breaking the law.
So why has there been so much talk about the HCG diet? Perhaps it's because the diet recommends severe calorie restriction — typically just 500 to 800 calories a day. People who follow such a very low calorie diet are likely to lose weight, at least in the short term. However, that level of calorie restriction has risks, such as gallstone formation, irregular heartbeat, and an imbalance of the electrolytes that keep the body's muscles and nerves functioning properly.
If weight loss is your goal, there are safer ways to lose weight. Talk with your doctor or other health care provider about how to make healthy changes that lead to permanent weight loss, such as eating a balanced diet and getting regular exercise.
The HCG diet is a starvation diet. Here is an illustration of how it works.  The Resting (basal) metabolic rate for a moderately active 300 pound woman 2909 calories per day. Her activities require an additional 1454. That means her total caloric for maintaining 300 pounds is a whopping 4364 a day! The bastard MD who are selling the HCG diet know that drastic calorie reduction will result in massive weight loss. Here is why. A pound of fat contains 3500 calories. 4364 that the 300 pound woman needs to maintain her weight - 500 calories allowed on the HCG diet = a 3864 calorie deficit. That is over 1 pound of weight loss in one day. That may sound like a good thing but it isn't. Very low calorie diets are dangerous for a variety of reasons.
The fuel of choice for our body cells is glucose. Glucose is stored in the liver in the form of glycogen. Withing a few days of being on a very low calorie diet the liver becomes deleted of glycogen and the cells rely on ketones which come from fat. When a person is in a state of ketosis they burn fat and muscle because that is the only fuel they have. Nearly everyone who goes on a very low calorie diet develops gall stones and over 1/3 of them need surgery,
I said that the cells of the body prefer glucose. The cells of the brain can only function on glucose. If you stay of a ketogenic diet too long you will develop ketogenic psychosis.
There is no proof that the hormone HCG does anything to cause weight loss. We know that starvation causes weight loss.
A scumbag company called called In Shape MD LINK is selling franchises to greedy doctors.
